History & Achievements

Augen History

Augen was originally founded in 1993 in Auckland, New Zealand, as a software services company.  Our primary focus was to service business organisations in a number of different sectors.

In 1994, Augen expanded its offering by servicing other software companies – looking after the requirements, development, maintenance, delivery, implementation, integration and support of their software products; some of which have evolved over time into software-as-a-service offerings.

By 1997, we had recognised the long-term potential of building our strategic position within the Asia-Pacific region.  We commenced by studying various Asian markets, establishing an understanding of the region and its future; identifying potential opportunities and relevance for New Zealand ICT companies.

During 2002, we started to get involved in a number of software joint ventures – designed to build and deliver new software innovations from unique market opportunities.  Our direct and active involvement allowed us to vastly increase our knowledge and understanding of software product / software-as-a-service businesses.

As both internet technology and business practices evolved, and fuelled by customer demand, Augen also expanded into the development and maintenance of sophisticated web portals to support online business interactions and information exchange.

Over the years, our range of services has further expanded to include strategy consulting and project management, among others.  This was in order to increase added value, and to provide a more comprehensive offering to our clients, many of whom have evolved with us over more than a decade.

Together with this expansion of our core services, we began to take on projects outside New Zealand – mainly around the Asia-Pacific region including Australia, Malaysia, Singapore, and even as far afield as the United Kingdom.

In 2004, after seven years of research and building connections in the Asia, we took the plunge and established our first overseas base.  Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam was chosen as our first Asian base because of the numerous strategic advantages offered by this location.

In early 2005, our Asian development centre in Vietnam became operational, and was officially opened by the then New Zealand Governor General – Dame Silvia Cartwright – in late November.

Today, Augen has been behind more than 300 successful software projects across many sectors, including banking, commercial services, community health/wellbeing/disability services, finance, fitness, human resource, industrial services, insurance, legal services, manufacturing, professional services, transport and utilities.

This list of industry sectors continues to grow every year.

With our breadth and depth of expertise, Augen has become New Zealand’s leading service provider to the software sector, looking after other ICT companies and their software product / software-as-a-service offerings, as well as their own customers.

Going forward, there are many opportunities for innovative New Zealand software product / software-as-a-service businesses to expand into Asia’s large and fast growing markets.  Augen’s existing presence, service facilities and resources in Asia, combined with our established business networks in the region, provide unique delivery and support capabilities for such companies.

In addition, we have established strong relationships with a number of market experts and key organisations, all identified for their specific skill sets, who specialise in software sales and distribution channels for this dynamic and exciting region.
